Lobar Inc. becomes four-time winner of ASA general contractor of the year award 4/3/2007
LOBAR INC. BECOMES FOUR-TIME WINNER OF ASA GENERAL CONTRACTOR OF THE YEAR AWARD Johnson named project superintendent of the year
DILLSBURG, Pa. (April 3, 2007) – For the fourth time, family-owned Lobar Inc. has been named general contractor of the year by the American Subcontractors Association of Central Pennsylvania.
Meanwhile, Lobar Inc.’s Steve Johnson, of Dillsburg, won the project superintendent of the year award at the association’s Annual Construction Awards gala March 17 at the Holiday Inn-Hershey in Grantville.
Carl Minnier, a Lobar Inc. estimator, was a finalist for construction estimator of the year. Minnier, who lives in Dillsburg, won the award in 2006.
Lobar Inc.’s award complements what promises to be the biggest year in the history of the Dillsburg-based company, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2007. Lobar Inc. is the builder of ongoing high-profile projects including Manheim Township High School in Lancaster County and Sovereign Bank Stadium in York, which this summer will become the home of the York Revolution baseball club.
“The success of Lobar Inc. owes a great deal to the terrific relationships we have with our subcontractors,” said Rich Eichelberger, Lobar Inc.’s president and the son of founders Lloyd and Barbara Eichelberger. “It’s a real honor to be recognized by them again with this award. We really appreciate it and, more important, the partnerships we have with the subcontractor community.”
Johnson, who began his career with Lobar Inc. in 1978 as a carpenter, enjoyed a steady rise through the company with promotions to foreman (1982), superintendent (1984) and general superintendent (1997). He was a project superintendent of the year finalist in 2000.
Some of Johnson’s notable recent projects as general superintendent include Manheim Township High School, Warwick High School, Lititz Elementary School and Lampeter-Strasburg Elementary School in Lancaster County; Susquenita Middle School in Perry County; Northern High School in York County, and Winding Hill Corporate Center in Mechanicsburg.
A native of Dillsburg, Johnson graduated from Northern High School. He attended the Cumberland-Perry Area Vocational Technical School, concentrating on carpentry. He was a self-employed residential carpenter from 1974 until he joined Lobar Inc.
Johnson and his wife, Gail, have two children, Steve Jr. and Amy.
The American Subcontractors Association of Central Pennsylvania represents and services both union and open shop members, and women and minority-owned business members from small businesses, large corporations and family-owned businesses throughout central Pennsylvania and the Lehigh Valley.
Lobar Inc. (www.lobar.com) specializes in work for the public sector, at the local, state and federal levels. Based in Dillsburg, Lobar Inc. operates satellite offices in Williamsport and Allentown. Lobar Inc. was named one of the “100 Best Places to Work in PA” in 2005 and 2006.
